Transport of freight
Usage of restraining straps in transportation of freight becomes ever more popular in the whole world. Their serviceability in any weather conditions combined with light weight and ease of use determine the choice.
To make the use of straps during transportation more efficient, the following external factors must be taken into account: cargo weight force, vibrations, inertial and centrifugal force, etc.
Thus, the force of 0,8 x cargo weight acts during braking, while the force of 0,5 x cargo weight acts during starting and passing road curves. It is also important to take into consideration the adhesion factor between the cargo and the platform, according to the Table:
| Platform |
Dry |
Wet |
Snowy |
| Adhesion factor |
0,3 |
0,2 |
0,1 |
 |
Example: Vehicle cargo weight = 5 tons. Adhesion factor between cargo and platform = 0,2. Adhesive force will be: 0,2 x 5 tons = 1ton (10 kN). For more security add the following values to the adhesion:
- forward (5 tons x 0,8) – 1 ton = 3 tons
- sideways (5 tons x 0,5) – 1 ton = 1,5 tons
- backwards (5 tons x 0,5) – 1 ton = 1,5 tons
Cargo securement system must endure cargo weight forward and half the cargo weight sideways and backwards. |
